Gestalt is all about creating more with less. Principles such as figure/ground, continuance, symmetry, and closure are all used to stimulate a more complex way of thinking when viewing this style of design.
The image above is my first iteration of a gestalt piece. It relies heavily on figure/ground and closure in terms of design principles. The black circles seem to blend into the white circle, creating an uncertainty of which one overlays what and whether or not you're looking at circles or those leaf shapes in the center (figure/ground). Each line makes your mind assume there are three circles, even though some are overlapped and hidden your mind completes the shape (closure).

This next piece uses a different strategy in terms of craftsmanship. From precise lines to free-form the design becomes heavily contrasted from the last. The use of area in this piece contributes to its figure/ground, splitting the two multiple times. All the lines used are directed to a single focal point in the middle.
